JBMA Halloween Parade

JBMA Halloween Parade is one of our annual traditions where students have an opportunity to dress up as a character and learn from each other. This year the Upper Elementary students are looking forward to the Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30th.

Students are invited to dress up only as a character from a book, a historical figure, or cultural representatives.  We aim to keep Halloween light-hearted and fun for everyone, and therefore will not allow weapons, blood, or anything scary.  Our costume parade brings all ages together and we need to respect the needs of the younger children.

As it gets closer to the event, a writing prompt about their character will be assigned to the students which they will share with the class after the parade.

(Please note that 6th grade students will be in Dauphin Island during this week.)

Layers of Earth Project

Continuing with our exploration of the Composition of the Earth, this month students researched and created a 3D model of the Earth depicting the several layers around.  They used their imagination along with craft materials such as play dough, foam board, lego pieces and paint to shape their final product and present it to the class.

Grass Is Greener On Our Side

Our young thumbs got greener this week in garden club!  We continued the renovation started last time on our peace garden.  It just gets more beautiful!  Additionally, we moved three struggling blueberry bushes to a sunny new home, where hopefully they will flourish!  For those who are not in garden club, but may want to participate in another way, we are accepting donations of plants, mulch, and pea gravel!  For more info about specific donations, contact Mr. Zech at zech@jbma.education!

Saturated Solutions

In science, students have been mixing together ingredients to make different solutions.  This past week they have been making SATURATED solutions, first with salt, then citric acid.  We added solid components one spoonful at a time to 50 ml of water until a precipitant formed in the bottom of the bottle.  Students then filtered their solution to remove any extra solids.
